Ezharakundu Waterfalls

Located near to the famous Paithalmala of Kannur, Ezharakund Waterfalls consists of a series of waterfalls along a stream, with rocky pits of varying sizes and depths underneath every fall. A hike along the stream give visitors access to all the falls, and pools for swimming.

Ezharakund Waterfalls, roughly meaning seven and half pit waterfall is a series of falls on a stream. The water falls from steep rocks eroding the rocky floor below, creating deep pits. The deepest of the pit is 15 feet tall.

The falls are along a stream. Once at the destination, you have to walk along the stream for 1.5 kilometres to reach the tallest and the last waterfall. The pathways are properly marked and safety rails are fixed in order to prevent people from entering the stream. There are many dangerous hulls and deep crevices in the stream so it is best to avoid jumping in wherever there are safety rails.

There are two pools which are safe to swim on. These are watched over by life guards and life jackets too are available here. In many sections of the trail, benches are placed to rest and enjoy the views. Overall, this is a very family friendly place, catered for children and elderlies well.

The walking trail itself is not steep, it is an easy hike. At the end of it near the tallest waterfall, there are tall platforms built by the district tourism department from where you can enjoy great views of the thundering waters. You will also get a sense of the dangers presented by the deep rocky pits once you see them from here.

A small restaurant serving snacks and tea is also present at the end of the trail.
It is just 10km from our cottage.
